Cavemen were slimmer because of exercise

Because it sure ain’t because of their diets as attested to by what they ate.

Our cavemen ancestors in fact ate much more than we do. Archeological records, approximate that our “cavemen” brethren consumed about 3,000 calories daily.

We now eat less than our ancestors and yet are fatter. Much fatter. In fact, we are much fatter than we were only a few decades ago. What’s the reason? The key?

One good reason is the increase in the consumption of carbohydrates, especially sugar. But the master reason is some thing else.

Exercise. For the most part we simply aren’t as physically active as we used to be. We don’t have to be because of life’s conveniences. So we have to exercise.

Judging from the statistics, we’re not exercising enough.

Great, easy supplement for constipation

This brings my childhood back as much as Pro Keds sneakers. Magnesium. Just some humble magnesium, convenient, cheap should help with constipation.

Makes perfect sense to me. I vividly recall my mom downing a whole bottle of milk of magnesia on a night and being very “busy” for the next day or so.

As an added bonus, magnesium lends you lots of other health benefits especially for heart and bone health.

Block fats with pickled peppers

Now, this is smart, a way to use “herbs” to help stave off weight gain.

If you pickle hot peppers, both the vinegar and the capsaicin in the pepper help block fat from entering your system.

I would use organic apple cider vinegar for its numerous health benefits.

As for peppers, any peppers that are hot will contain the active ingredient that will make it taste hot, capsaicin.

I would have some before and with high fat meals.

Quick check for dehydration

One of the Healthy World websites deals with the importance of healthy water. One of its two main concerns is on the effects of dehydration on the human body.

There is little you can do to check whether you are dehydrated but there is one easy and quick check to see whether you might be somewhat dehydrated.

Pinch your skin on top of your hand and then observe its “behaviour.” If it returns back to normal right afterward s, its a good sign. If after pinch, it remains raised and discolored, it may signal you are dehydrated. Healthy hydrated skin should snap right back to normal.

Now, we know that as we get older, especially past middle age, our skin will start to look drier. In fact, an unavoidable part of aging is that our bodies gradually dehydrate.

However, the speed of that process can be offset if you are diligent about it.

Healthy World Digest, February 2012

* Butt fat problems

* Quick remedy for tension & fatigue

* Cavemen were slimmer because of exercise

* Easy test for dehydration

* Pickled peppers block fats

* A concentration breakfast

* Wearing insoles

* Anti cancer herbal extract

* Great, easy supplement for constipation

Well, plenty of our major holidays are over, winter wanes, and for a whole lot of us, New Years Resolutions are swept away like so much holiday confetti.

So what? Its still early in the year. We have plenty of time to get in shape for spring and then swimsuit season. So lets buck up and move ahead.

* Butt fat problems

The bane of so many women in the “1st world” – why is it so hard to get rid of? Simply put, your butt gets less blood flow and so is much harder to melt away fat from there than the jiggly belly fat.

Luckily, when it comes to health, fat around the butt and hips is much less of a health concern than fat that is centered around the torso. That’s because upper body fat surrounds vital organs while butt fat just makes too many women self-conscious.

But frankly, much of the pear shape effect cannot be undone, especially by women. But most of the problem is simple perception.

A recent Dr. Oz show featured a segment on this issue and the women who volunteered to present their butt fat (in jeans, of course) were, in no way, too fat around that area. They were just shapely but appeared self-conscious about being normal.

Look, most women aren’t designed to have the small buttocks of swimsuit models. If you are healthy, of normal weight, are active, be what you are.

* Quick remedy for tension & fatigue

Pulling hair gently, generates blood flow which tends to reduce tension and fatigue. I also recall reading a book as a teen that suggested slight hair tugs stave off thinning. Who knows?

* Cavemen were slimmer because of exercise

Because it sure ain’t because of their diets.

* Pickled peppers block fats

Yep. If you pickle hot peppers, both the vinegar and the capsaicin in the pepper help block fat from entering your system.

I would enjoy some before and with high fat meals.

* A concentration breakfast

Hey, want to assure better concentration after breakfast especially if you are scheduled to take a test or have an important business meeting? Here’s a super breakfast.

Eat a couple of eggs for their protein and choline which both improve concentration. A little bran cereal will give you brain boosting zinc. Finally, a cup of coffee provides caffeine that will rev you for a couple of hours and antioxidants that are also good for thinking. Now go get ’em!

* Wearing insoles

In a recent Healthy World Digest, I suggested you never knock around in your running or walking shoes. Messes up the cushioning.

Another tip is to wear insoles for any shoes you walk or run in.

I place anywhere from 2 to 3 insoles in my shoes for extra cushioning. Frankly, I get the Dollar Store brand rather than the expensive Dr Scholl’s because I believe that 2 dollars worth of cheap insoles is a better bargain than expensive brands costing $10 or more. Look, I know, I’m El Cheapo.

Buying good vitamins economically

The best deal on multivitamins is frankly the large container of multivitamins at the big discount stores. Get a container that is manufactured by a well known respected company just to be sure.

Chances are the quality will be good, prices are great.

Personally, I buy CVS brand multi-vitamins, 365 in a bottle, normally on 2 for 1 sale. I take one with breakfast, one with dinner. So my purchase is good for a whole year.

Herbal tea for constipation

This isn’t such a hard one to take.

Peppermint tea helps with constipation. Add a little fresh ginger root and raw honey and you’ve really got a delicious nightcap.

My recipe for the most delicious, healthy tea, taken before retiring is calming, soothing and offers various benefits vis a vis infections, blood sugar problems and more.

I boil up about 16 ounces of fresh filtered water, with a wedge of fresh ginger root and a small piece of cinnamon stick.

Then I steep one tea bag of an organic peppermint based tea and one bag of  a chamomile based tea for around 5 minutes.

Remove tea bags but leave in ginger and cinnamon, so their properties and flavor continue to be extracted. Add a packet of stevia and a tablespoon of honey, preferably raw and organic.

Now enjoy a delicious, refreshing, calming big mug of tea.

Rosemary herb

We’ve mentioned rosemary on previous pages on our Healthy World websites. It offers lots of health benefits.

For example, you can make a rosemary tea to relieve bloating & gas.

You can also rub dried rosemary on BBQed meats to hold off cancer causing compounds from the process of barbequing.  Especially good on chicken but very good on beef, pork and several vegetables.

Rosemary also aids mental functions. It helps you think better, and improves memory. Use it in a body balm, and as an essential oil in candle for memory and alertness.

Water keeps you healthy & cool

The European Commission recently stated that bottled water does not prevent dehydration. Their conclusion was reached due to a technicality and ultimately based on flawed research.

But now the EC asserts that water does in fact keep you cool and healthy.  No kidding.

Essentially it stated that water helps you regulate body temperature and help with physical and mental functioning.

Of course it does. It does so because it helps you avoid dehydration. We all know, by now, that dehydration leads to numerous health problems.

Don’t believe me? Just look at how losing some water, let’s say, while exercising in warm weather, affects performance and thinking.
